Financing your project

We work with several banks and credit unions to help customers pay for their projects. In many cases, the energy savings go a long way toward the loan payment.

Switch It Up on-bill financing

Switch It Up is OPALCO’s on-bill financing program. You finance a qualifying solar, battery, EV charger or efficiency project and pay it back on your monthly OPALCO bill.

Project amountTermService charge
Up to $5,0005 years3% amortized
$5,001 to $100,00010 years3% amortized
Who can apply?

All OPALCO members can apply. OPALCO looks at your payment history with the co-op (no arrears) and whether the equipment qualifies. If you don’t own the property, the owner signs the agreement, since the improvement and the financing stay with the property.

Are there fees?

OPALCO charges no administration fee. San Juan County recording fees for the Memorandum of Meter Conservation Charge are passed through and included in the financing.

Can I get a rebate and finance the same project?

No. You can finance a project through Switch It Up, or pay for it yourself and apply for an OPALCO rebate, but not both.

Is funding available now?

OPALCO says its Switch It Up funds are limited and prioritized for projects completed within the year, with a $100,000 limit for residential members. Ask early, and we’ll help you plan around it.

Thinking about solar, a battery or an EV charger?

Tell us a little about your property and what you have in mind. We’ll set up a time to come out, look at your roof or land, and talk through what makes sense.
